Hello everyone,
I've gotta say...coming up with the menu this week was a challenge! Usually by this time today, the menu is already posted, the newsletter and social media posts are shared, and we start making long to-do lists of things needing to be accomplished for the week's prep. This week we wanted to dedicate our offerings to the celebration of Mother's Day and making up a special as well as a thoughtful menu to honor the occasion took a bit of effort. We hope you like what we've come up with!
Alongside some of our regular offerings, here are a few of the items we're really excited about. I'm planning to dust off my decorative scoring skills to bake our Organic Sourdough Miche loaves this week. These large loaves make a perfect centerpiece for the celebratory table as they are over 12" in diameter (definitely enough to feed a crowd) and allow for a beautiful presentation of something as "simple" as bread. It also comes packaged in a window display box making it perfect for gifting. For folks that have ordered these in the past, you know the loaves have not been available since Thanksgiving/Christmastime so I'm happy to add this very special holiday to our list of "miche" days. For those of you that haven't had them in the past, here's an example of what our miches look like:
We will also be whipping up a spring-flavored quiche for your brunch plans - an asparagus, bacon, mushroom one this time. You can pair it with our Mother's Day Mimosa package! For a special dessert, you can of course choose from the large variety of pastries listed but you can also present your mom with our vanilla cupcakes frosted with a buttercream flower bouquet (or the red velvet ones which I have a personal weakness for). Last week we had an overwhelming request for the Elote and Caprese savory pastries to be offered again, so you'll find those on the menu as well. And of course, a spring brunch wouldn't be complete without strawberry somethings so there's a "chocolate covered strawberry" cruffin or a strawberry pie mini galette too.
Last but not least, for this Mother's Day, I really wanted to share our C&C mother with all of you out there wanting to learn how to make your own sourdough bread at home. A sourdough culture is called a "mother" and ours here at C&C is named M.O.B.Y. (aka Mother of Bread plus "y" to roll off the tongue easier)...I guess it's not that original of a name but...my fellow Game of Thrones fans, you get it right? Moby was created back in 2016 and if I had to count off how many loaves of bread she has mothered since then, I'd be here all week. Probably thousands upon thousands at this point. Our mother starter is very active, well fed, and has a beautiful mild flavor which sets the foundation for all the sourdough loaves you've ever had from our bakery. We have put together a "Mother of Breads" package hoping that it'll kickstart your own bread making journey - the package includes a jar of our starter, 5lb of the organic flour we use here at the bakery (it is milled specifically for artisan bread making), and an instruction booklet.
